Calacatta Quartz Kitchen Countertops in Spearfish, South Dakota

Project Backstory

When our client came to us, their kitchen still had its original Formica countertops. They were ready for a surface that could hold up to daily use and give the room a brighter, cleaner feel. Here in Spearfish, we work with a lot of homeowners making that same move away from laminate, and we were glad to help this one find the right fit.

After walking through the options together, they chose Calacatta Quartz. The white background and soft gray veining brought the light and openness they wanted, while the engineered quartz gave them the durable, low-maintenance surface they were after. It was a practical upgrade that also changed how the whole room reads.

We handled the fabrication and installation so the veining ran cleanly across the counters. The finished kitchen feels fresh and functional, built to keep up with a busy South Dakota household for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Calacatta Quartz is an engineered stone made from ground quartz bound with resin, which makes it hard, non-porous, and resistant to scratches and stains. Compared to the Formica it often replaces, it stands up well to everyday cooking, prep, and cleaning without much fuss.

They share a similar look, a white field with gray veining, but the materials are not the same. Marble is natural stone that can etch and stain over time, while Calacatta Quartz is manufactured to mimic that appearance with far less upkeep. For a working kitchen, quartz is usually the easier surface to live with.

No. Because quartz is non-porous, it does not require the periodic sealing that natural stone does. Regular cleaning with mild soap and water keeps it looking bright, which is part of why it is such a practical choice for homeowners upgrading from laminate.
